DIY UNIQUE GALLERY WALL – SIMPLIFIED!

14 October 2019 by Arianna Francis Leave a Comment

Charlotte Mason Artist Picture Study

Our family practices Artist Study as part of our Charlotte Mason style homeschooling. I’ve always appreciated art, so this was a fantastic excuse to beautify our home with famous prints. I happened to already have the framed center poster by Gustav Klimt. So the rest are rotated out with a new artist set each semester. I’m planning to keep as many as will fit stored in the frames for when we rotate back around in a few years.

Here are the frames I used for the Artist Study.*

Photo Gallery Wall Hack

I’ve discovered a quick and easy way to layout and hang gallery wall frames. The Artist Study was the second one I’ve done. Here is the first.

I loved it so much I wrapped the design around the corner and continued
the pattern down the hall!
Here are frames I used for the family photo wall.*
5×7 black or white, 8×10 black or white, and 4×6 black or white.
I chose white but black would look sharp too!

DIY Gallery Wall Instructions

  1.  Take the store photo out of the frame. (With the adorable model family)
  2.  Line up the frame back with that sample photo.
  3.  Mark on that photo where the nail hole will be.
  4.  Take all the same size sample photos and stack them neatly together.
  5.  With your marked sample on top, poke or hammer a nail through all the samples.
  6.  Tape your samples on the wall in your desired layout. (So easy to rearrange!)
  7.  You can measure the distances between them or just eyeball it.
  8.  Nail the papers to the wall through the holes you previously made.
  9.  Tear off the papers and hang up your frames!
  10.  Do a little jig! Now your house looks even more amazing!

Bonus Idea:

Zen Doodle

You may have noticed something different on the family photo wall. I first painted the space I wanted to hang the frames white in a flat sheen. To contrast the high gloss of of the glass and create the illusion of a huge matted frame. I drew the border with a fun silver paint marker* which I also used to doodle on this accent wall:

Have you ever made a gallery wall?
How did it turn out?

About Arianna

Introduction:

I was born in Farmington, NM and now live in Kennewick, WA.  My childhood was full of wonderful outdoor free play, and seemingly unlimited drawing time!

Interests:

I have soooo many interests honestly I’m just going to name a few of my favorites! Arts that involve up-cycling things, minor home and decor renovations, furniture refinishing, gardening, fermenting and making foods from scratch, nature study, watercoloring, building an extensive home library of living books, homeschooling my kids with Charlotte Masons methods... and teaching Art in our homeschool co-op.

Favorite Movies:

I haven’t owned a tv since 2009! I prefer reading or activities to watching shows... however, if I must pick a favorite theme it would be movies based on true stories and documentaries of all kinds. Okay, and going way back my all time favorite show would be Mr.Rogers’ Neighborhood.

Favorite Music:

I really enjoy folk songs, especially Irish folk songs! I picked up an accordion at an estate sale and now have yet another awesome hobby!

Favorite Books:

I’ve historically been interested in non-fiction books addressing psychology, relationships, trauma, healing therapies, child training, teaching and nurturing. However, after homeschooling for several years I’ve branched into classics and fiction. The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear is my most recent favorite! I’m in three book clubs locally, The Well Read Mom, The Daughters of Liberty, and one on Charlotte Mason philosophy and application.

Oh, and I love giant mugs of strong English black tea with lots of cream!
