We really don’t need as much toilet paper as we think…
How much TP do you buy?
A quick search online reveals a variety of statistics on TP use. Everyone’s use varies so it looks like an average from 2-4 rolls per person per week. Here is one tidbit.
No matter how much we use or spend I think we can each make an effort to reduce our toilet paper consumption if we think outside the box, or should I say bowl?
Cloth feels luxurious compared to paper!
A common sense opportunity to ditch toilet paper dependency arose when my babies were little. I was already using cloth diapers and wipes… why not us cloth instead of TP?
We still buy TP but it’s mostly for guests as we just hardly need to use it anymore. Even reducing our demand a little saves us money. Every little square adds up. I have to say the feel of cloth is superior to even that pricey luxury toilet paper. I think ladies reading this will probably relate: no more tiny pieces of TP stuck in your business! Holla!
I looked back on our amazon subscribe and save and see we’ve bought this TP every 6ish months since 2017. We use approximately 4-5 rolls per month for a family of 5. Slashing my internet search average by half!
Looking further through our order history I see we started cloth in February 2016. I was planning to buy a set of basic washcloths to use as TP. However, when this set arrived they were SO much nicer than I thought they would be for the price that I switched up my plan. I swapped the new set for all our old washcloths. So we got the new fluffy ones for our face and bathing and the older ones became designated as TP “rags”.
We have a clean and dirty bin near the toilet. I wash them when I’m running low. Every few days or so. No, it doesn’t smell. I used dollar tree trash bins in a cute file carrier I already had that just happened to fit. My other bathroom has the clean bin on back of the toilet and the dirty on the floor opposite the regular little trash can.
A Bidet is refreshing!
I tried using a bidet for the first time in a fancy hotel nearly a decade ago. I was surprised how well they clean. I took the plunge and bought a bidet that was easy to install on any toilet. There really isn’t much left to wipe after the bidet does its work. I honestly wished I had it bought it before the birth of my first baby as it’s very helpful for healing bottoms. Heads up expecting mamas!
If your not quite ready to commit to a bidet how about just rinsing off with these handy peri bottles? You may already have a couple at home if you’ve had a baby. Just fill them and set them in a basket on the back of the toilet next to your clean cloth wipes.

May as well share all my bathroom secrets… well, not all.
I bought the Squatty Potty stools for us adults and a child dealing with constipation. As a bonus the stools helped the toddlers to get on and off the toilets safely. They tuck out of the way under the toilet and are easy to sanitize also.
What do you think?
Can you try cloth? Do you have rags you can dedicate as TP already?
